You have heard a lot about Mykonos but the information you get is too much to put it in a line. You need to know what the best things about Mykonos are – those things that make people crazy about the Aegean island. Here are the 3 ingredients of Mykonian summer life that everybody – without a single exception – would like.
- The most cosmopolitan island of Greece
Mykonos is a meeting place for international celebrities, jet setters, movie stars, top models, TV personalities, rock stars, fashion designers, artists of any kind. You will see them on the stone-paved alleys of Chora, in night clubs or restaurants, on the beach. They are here because in Mykonos they can find a summer paradise where they can have their privacy when they want and the luxury they are used to. Most of them choose one of the many beautiful Mykonos villa to rent which combine all the above and give them a lot of space to enjoy their vacations with their family or friends.
One of the things that contributed to Mykonos’ fame as the most cosmopolitan island of Greece is the easy access with any kind of transportation. The international airport of Mykonos is connected with the most important European and some international cities. Mykonos has some heliports so it is easily accessed by helicopter too. The ports and the marinas can accept almost all types of boats – from big cruise ships to private yachts of any length.
But of course the most important reason for travelers to visit Mykonos is its vibrant nightlife and the crazy parties where common people mix with the celebrities. This is why locals say that Mykonos is “the place to see and be seen”.
- The best food you can have
If you love good food Mykonos is the right place to explore new tastes and to find famous chefs’ dishes. There are a lot of restaurants of any type here and many world famous chefs spend their summers here preparing unique dishes for their guests. Some of the best fine dining restaurants are:
-Nobu Matsuhisa at Belvedere Hotel in Mykonos Town: New Style Japanese cuisine by the famous chef that has conquered the world.
-Koursaros at Meletopoulou St. in Mykonos Town: the best fresh fish and seafood dishes in an extraordinary decorated environment.
-Nammos at Psarou beach: a hippie chic restaurant with Mediterranean menu in an all-day resort with a lot of luxury facilities.

-Buddha Bar at Ornos Bay: elegant atmosphere and excellent food right next to the sea, from the famous international chain.
If you prefer a more casual restaurant, we suggest Kiki’s Tavern at Fokos beach, Nikolas Tavern at Agia Anna – Paranga beach or Bakalo at Lakka area in Mykonos Town.
- Mesmerizing beaches to have a swim or have fun
Mykonos has around 30 beaches, some of which are organized and some are virgin. As the strong northern winds blow here most of the time, people usually prefer the southern beaches that are protected by hills around them. All of them have golden sand and turquoise waters and in most of the southern beaches you will find helpful facilities.
Four of the southern beaches are known as “the party beaches”: Paradise, Super Paradise, Psarou and Paranga. They are organized beaches with restaurants, beach bars, sun loungers and umbrellas and their special feature is their wild parties that start late in the afternoon and end the next morning.
Other organized beaches at the south are Elia, Kalo Livadi, Lia and Kalafati. Ornos, Agios Ioannis and Megali Ammos are also sandy beaches on the west coastline of Mykonos. Around most of the organized beaches you will find a lot of lovely Mykonos Villas to rent, so that you can stay close to the beach of your dreams.
If you want to explore the wild side of the island, there are wonderful serene beaches where you can relax away from the crowds. Such beaches are Houlakia, Fokos, Kapari and Ftelia. The islets of Delos and Rhenia also have some pretty nice and calm sandy beaches.
