First off, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, you may or may not invite family and guests over. Either way, we still want our home to be clean. In our household, we usually take time to have everything spotless because we know we’ll make a mess again. With all the wrapping papers being torn apart and boxes being tossed around, things get messy quickly. We turn around and spend the next couple days to have things clean for the new year. We were taught as kids about so many superstitious things and the house being clean on New Years is one of them. To help everyone, check out these 6 great cleaning tips for Christmas and New Years.

Assess Everything

The first thing you want to do is assess what all needs to be done. You go throughout your home and assess what all needs to be done. The kids are usually in charge of their room and we all pitch to clean the rest of the house. You don’t need to waste your time guessing on what to do since you already know what to tackle. Instead of doing all the cleaning in one day, spread out the cleaning process for several days. We make a checklist of what everyone is responsible for. Having a Christmas cleaning list will help you make your cleaning more organized and efficient at the same time.

Declutter Everything

We all are essential workers, which mean that we have been working a lot leading up to Christmas. When everyone is working, we have the tendency to misplace everything and have a mess. Getting each room organized will speed up the cleaning process. You won’t have to waste time rearranging items or moving things from one area to another. By organizing your home, you will have a chance to clear things out. You’ll be surprised how a clean-out can give your house a refreshing look. Doing this will let you enter New Year with a clutter-free house. For us with man caves, take this time to declutter our areas because we know they need it.

Clean and Sanitize All Surfaces

Countertops will be getting a lot of attention during the Christmas season. Make sure you give them a deep clean before the big day. It’s essential to wipe kitchen surfaces right after you prepare your food. This is because uncooked meats have the tendency to leave germs and bacteria behind. Make sure to clean your countertops thoroughly before you get busy with cooking, so your kitchen won’t look unpleasant for your guests. We keep Scott’s Liquid Gold cleaner around at all times for our cleaning. We have some that’s good for multi-surfaces and also wood care. Also polish your chairs, furnishings, and shelves. Remove the build-up dust and stains by using a damp cloth.

This is where you cook and place your food when cooking for the holidays. It’s worth cleaning your oven and stove before the Christmas cooking begins. When it comes to your fridge, get rid of all the expired items that you’ve kept inside your refrigerator. You need a clean fridge and to allocate lots of space to accommodate all your holiday cooking. If you have any leftovers, go ahead and get rid of them before cooking your holiday meals.

Don’t Forget Those Bathrooms

The bathrooms are probably used more than you realize throughout the year. We usually do a deep clean in the spring and the holidays will be a wonderful time to do it also. You need to ensure that you scrub the floor, wipe down the toilet, and shower. Remove any stain on the sink and counters. Disinfecting will help as there will be no need for re-scrubbing. Make sure that you put plenty of toilet papers and clean towels for your guests to use.
