New Jack City is one of my favorite movies of all-time. The movie was released 30 years ago and it’s still one of those that never get old. Just like every other great movie from the 90s, we always waited for the soundtrack. Above the Rim, Waiting to Exhale, I’m Bout It and many more were classics that came out in the 90s. The New Jack City Soundtrack turns 30 years old today. The New Jack City Soundtrack was a good mixture of hip hop and R&B. Keith Sweat, Ice-T, Queen Latifah, Color Me Badd, 2 Live Crew and Johnny Gill appeared on the soundtrack. New Jack City Soundtrack debuted at #1 and I’m Dreaming from Christopher Williams was the lead single. Williams actually played in the movie as Kareem Akbar. I’m Dreaming shot up to #1 and is one of my favorite tracks ever.
The only single dropped from the New Jack City Soundtrack was from Color Me Badd. I Wanna Sex You Up was a mega-hit back in the day. The single went double platinum and was one of the biggest hits in 1991. Overall, the New Jack City Soundtrack is a really good album. The two singles, New Jack Hustler by Ice-T and Facts of Life by Danny Madden were great. When you add Keith Sweat’s Tellin’ Me No Again, which are from his 2nd album those are my top 5 tracks.
