Daddy’s Hangout 2021 NCAA Sweet 16 Predictions

The first two round the March Madness was as crazy as we have ever seen. We have a number of Cinderella teams as we enter the second weekend of the tournament. Gonzaga and Baylor are still the favorites to meet in the championship game. With all the madness that has taken place in March, could we see someone else? Let’s take a look and see who I think will advance to the Final Four.

East Region

#1 Michigan vs. #4 Florida State

We have the only matchup that features two teams that were favorites and prevailed in the first two rounds. We also have a game that features two of my favorite college programs. The Wolverines were one of the favorites entering the tournament to win it all. The injury to Isaiah Livers will hurt them at some point in the tournament. Could it be against this deep Seminole squad? Florida State has one of the deepest teams in the country. The Seminoles can hit you from everywhere and they have size on the perimeter also. The size and depth could prove to be trouble for the Wolverines. This is a hard one to pick, but I’m going with the Seminoles to pull this one off. Florida State Wins

#11 UCLA vs. #2 Alabama

The Bruins have looked like a different team thus far. After pulling off the upset against the BYU Cougars, they manhandled Abilene Christian.  UCLA have used their stout defense to smother opponents in the tournament. They will have a tough time against the speed of Alabama. Can they upset the Tide and get one step closer to the Final Four? Alabama used a late run to escape Rick Pitino and Iona. In the second round, they dominated Maryland to advance to the Sweet 16. Can they continue this magical run they’re on? I’m picking the Tide to advance and play on. Alabama Wins

West Region

#1 Gonzaga vs. #5 Creighton

Gonzaga has been the best team in the country from the beginning of the season. They come into this tournament as the only undefeated team. They blew out Norfolk State in the opening round. In the second round, they pretty much did the same to the Oklahoma Sooners. Will they continue this dominate run past Creighton and into the Elite 8? Creighton is that one team that can lose to the worse team and beat the best. The Blue Jays will have their hands full seeing the Zags are the top dogs in college basketball. This will be a close match for a while, but Gonzaga pulls away. Gonzaga Wins

#6 USC vs. #7 Oregon

We have a battle between two Pac-12 teams with a shot at reaching the Elite 8. USC have been one of the hottest teams in the tournament. The Mobley Brothers have dominated both ends of the floor in their wins. How will they react after beating down Kansas to advance to the Sweet 16? Oregon has also been playing some of their best basketball in the tournament. They manhandled Iowa on their way to the Sweet 16. Can they repeat that kind of dominating performance against their conference rival? I’m riding with the Mobley Brothers in this one. USC Wins

South Region

#1 Baylor vs. #5 Villanova

We all have talked about Gonzaga being the best team in the country this season. Baylor is right under the Zags and probably the second best team. The Bears are explosive and have been pretty much unstoppable outside of the one game they lost. After beating a tough foe in Wisconsin, they face another one in Villanova. Jay Wright is a championship winning coach who’s great at what he does. Will they be enough to pull off the upset of Baylor? This will be a good game, but I’m leaning towards Baylor advancing. Baylor Wins

#3 Arkansas vs. #15 Oral Roberts

Arkansas had one of their best seasons in a long time this season. They are coming off barely edging Texas Tech to reach the Sweet 16. This tough and scrappy Razorback team will be a heavy favorite going into this matchup against Oral Roberts. Can Arkansas avoid the huge upset and advance to the Elite 8? Oral Roberts took down two great teams in Ohio State and Florida to advance. Ohio State was a team that many saw advancing to the Final Four this season. Can the Cinderella run of Oral Roberts continue? Arkansas should bring them down a bit and win this one. Arkansas Wins

Midwest Region

#8 Loyola Chicago vs. #12 Oregon State

Loyola Chicago had one of the biggest shockers in the opening weekend of March Madness. They defeated the Fighting Illini, who was a top seed and projected by many to reach the Final Four. They didn’t just beat Illinois, but they did it in dominating fashion. Loyola Chicago plays great defense, forces turnovers and can score from the inside and outside. Can they continue another magical run in the tournament and advance? Oregon State upset Tennessee in the opening round by smuggling the Vols with a stingy defense. In the second round, they defeated Cade Cunningham and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Can they continue their great play against this tough Loyola Chicago team? This will be a great matchup and I’m picking the Ducks to advance. Oregon State Wins

#11 Syracuse vs. #2 Houston

Last, but not least we have the Syracuse Orange facing the Houston Cougars. Buddy Boeheim is one of the more prolific scorers in the tournament. Boeheim has guided the Orange to upsets over West Virginia and San Diego State to get to the Sweet 16. Can Boeheim and this Orange team continue this run and upset the Cougars? Houston is coming off a hard fought win over Rutgers to advance to the Sweet 16. The defense of the Cougars is what makes this team great. They will need to put out a great effort to stop Boeheim from scoring at will. This will be a close game and in the end, I’m picking the Orange to pull off another upset. Syracuse Wins
