Smartphones are extremely capable devices with loads of interesting features. If you’re an iOS user then you probably won’t be surprised to know that your Apple smartphone has some unique tricks up its sleeve. So, in this post, we’re going to look at some of the more unique and interesting iOS features that aren’t as common as you’d think.
Useful Photo Features
When taking photos, you might find that you take duplicate shots now and then because you’re looking to capture the best moments. However, you might want to learn how to delete duplicate photos on iPhone because it can save a lot of space. While you can manually delete them yourself, there are also apps that can detect duplicate photos or even low-quality photos (such as blurry images) and help you delete them automatically. These apps will scan your library and then tell you what they’ve found before letting you manually pick the ones you don’t like and then delete them. Once you’re done deleting duplicate photos, you’ll find that you’ll have a bit more storage space to play around with and it’ll be easier to find photos in the future.
Another helpful feature related to photos is hiding pictures. You can actually select pictures and hide them from your regular album, meaning that they won’t show up when you’re browsing through your pictures. Instead, they’ll be kept in a “Hidden” folder instead. So the next time you show people your photos, you can hide private things that you want to keep to yourself.
Declutter Your Apps
With newer iOS versions, we now have access to the App Library. This feature can be used for storing apps that you don’t use much, making it a great place to store apps that you might use now and again. This saves a lot of space on your phone and can also declutter your home screen. If you want apps to automatically go to your App Library instead of your home screen, then you can actually set this by going to the Settings menu and the Home Screen category. There should be a setting to have your apps go directly to the App Library only.
To access the App Library, simply swipe all the way to the last page of your home screen then swipe once more and it will open the App Library. If you don’t see this option, then you need to make sure your iPhone is updated to at least iOS 14.
New Home Screen Features
With iOS 14, we got a plethora of new home screen features that gives us far more control over how it looks and how we use it. For example, iOS 14 allows us to add widgets to the home screen which can be really useful for looking at the information at a glance. This is something that Android users have had for a long time, but it’s only recently been implemented on iOS. Simply long-press any app icon on your home screen and then tap “Edit Home Screen”. From here, you’ll get a bunch of other buttons that allow you to remove apps and move them around. At the top, you’ll see a plus sign that you can press to open up the widget menu. From here, you can choose what you want to add to your home screen.
In addition to widgets, there’s also a very handy feature to get rid of entire home screens. If you long-press any blank area on a home screen then taps the bar at the bottom of the screen, your home screens will zoom out and there will be tick boxes under each of them. If you untick a home screen and confirm, it will remove the entire page and all of the apps will go into your app library.
Making Use of Low Power Mode
iPhones have had a low power mode for a while now, but people rarely use it because they usually charge their phone at the end of the day. However, if you’re interested in saving battery life on your iPhone, then you can simply turn on Low Power Mode. This can solve some battery issues that you might have and it’s a good option for when you don’t plan to use your phone much. It disables some visual effects and prevents automatic downloads, but also prevents certain apps from refreshing in the background.
This might cause a few issues with your apps, but in general, it’ll make your battery last a lot longer.
