Outkast is regarded as one of the best hip hop duos to ever touch the mic. Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was their debut back in 1994 and it was a classic. The album introduced the Goodie Mob and their first album, Soul Food was also a classic. The hip hop community was waiting to hear some new music from Outkast. Early in the summer of 1996, they released the first single, Elevators for their upcoming album. The album was called ATLiens and it was released 25 years ago today. ATLiens went on to go double platinum and has been called one of the greatest hip hop joints ever. Elevators was the first single released as mentioned before. Elevators went gold and became their highest charting single. Later in the summer, Outkast dropped their second single which is the title track. ATLiens didn’t chart as high as the previous single, but it was dope.
ATLiens was an up-tempo track that Andre 3000 and Big Boi killed. Outkast released one final single in the spring of 1997. Jazzy Belle was the track and it was another dope track from Outkast. They released a remix of Jazzy Belle with Babyface doing the chorus. ATLiens is a great album, which saw the growth of Big Boi and Andre 3000. It’s a toss up between this album and Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. Overall, the ATLiens album was well-received from critics and fans alike.
