Welcome to 2021 Week 2 of the NFL season as things kicked off with a bang. Last week was bad, but it could have been much worse with my predictions. My record was 5-4, which falls way short on my quest to have at least a 70% winning percentage. The big shockers on Sunday had to be the Saints dominate the Packers for starters. The other one saw the Arizona Cardinals decimate the Tennessee Titans. On Monday, we saw one of, if not the best game when the Raiders beat the Ravens in OT. We will kick things off this week with the New York Giants visiting the Washington Football Team on Thursday night. This week I’ll be predicting a total of 12 games. Let’s get it!
The Thursday night game is between two NFC East teams that suffered losses in Week 1. The New York Giants will travel to Washington to face the Football Team. They both enter this game with losses in their opening game. The Giants fell to the Denver Broncos. On the other end, Washington lost to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Giants isn’t viewed by many as a team that could win the division. If they fall to 0-2, this could hurt them more than it would Washington. For the Giants to steal a win in Washington, they must get Saquon Barkley rolling. For Washington, they lost Ryan Fitzpatrick for up to 2 months with a hip injury. Taylor Heinicke will get the start and he will rely heavily on Antonio Gibson. Washington could win with its defense and controlling the ball. Washington Win 27-17
We head to the AFC for this matchup as the Cleveland Browns host the Houston Texans. Coming into this game, you would think the Browns would be 1-0 instead of Houston. The Texans blew out Jacksonville in their Week 1 opener with an efficient offense and stout defense. The Texans defense forced Trevor Lawrence to throw three picks in the route. This week, Houston has a much harder test. Can the Texans pull off a major upset against Cleveland? Last week, the Browns took the reigning AFC champs to the brink. Cleveland controlled most of the game against the Chiefs until a costly mistake ended their upset bid. The Browns should get back on track in their home opener and defeat Houston. Cleveland Win 38-17
We have the Los Angeles Rams making the cross country trip to battle the Indianapolis Colts. The Rams looked sharp in their opener behind Matthew Stafford’s impressive debut. The defense frustrated Chicago for most of the game. Stafford did his part by picking apart the defense in their blowout win over Chicago. Can the Rams keep it going on both sides of the ball? Indianapolis fell in their home opener against the Seattle Seahawks. The Colts were outmanned on both sides of the ball and Carson Wentz need to play better. Indianapolis is still dealing with injuries on the offensive side of the ball. If the Colts are going to win this one, they must control the line on both sides. This should be another Rams victory to push them to 2-0. Los Angeles Win 27-21
We have a battle between two AFC East rivals as the Bills travel to Miami to battle the Dolphins. Buffalo opened the season with a loss against the tough Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bills are viewed as one of the favorites to not only win the division, but reach the Super Bowl. Josh Allen will need to rebound and show why the Bills gave him that huge contract extension. Miami opened the season by edging New England on the road. The defense played great and Tua will need to improve his play for this team to be successful. If Buffalo drops this game, this would put them 0-2 to start the season. I’m on their bandwagon and think they will beat Miami. Buffalo Win 31-21
We head to Philadelphia and their home opener as the Eagles host the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers opened their season in what should have been a route of the Lions. San Francisco allowed the Lions to make a courageous comeback, but the Niners held on to the win. The Eagles were really impressive in their 32-6 rout over the Atlanta Falcons. Once again, the injury bug has bitten the 49ers as they lost 2 key players for the year last week. The defense was dominant until a pair of mistakes changes the complexion of the game. The Eagles were efficient on offense as Jalen Hurts was flawless, which is why his jersey sales rose. The defense got after Matt Ryan, but this will be a true test for the young Eagles. I’m going with the 49ers to leave with the win. San Francisco Win 27-24
We head back to the AFC for a battle between two historic franchises. The Las Vegas Raiders head to Pittsburgh to battle the Steelers. The Raiders are coming off that amazing, come from behind overtime win against Baltimore. Towards the end of the game, the Raiders offense showed they were elite. The defense forced a couple of turnovers from Lamar Jackson. Can they duplicate that performance in Pittsburgh? Pittsburgh used a stout defense and special teams to upset the Buffalo Bills. Big Ben will have to play a little better to give that defense a break. This could be the game where the Steelers get their running game going. I’m expecting them to defeat the Raiders to go to 2-0. Pittsburgh Win 31-20
We now go to the NFC South for this battle of 1-0 teams. The New Orleans Saints travel to Carolina to battle the Panthers. New Orleans had probably the most surprising win last week by blowing out Green Bay. Jameis Winston looked like the QB most of us thought he was. Winston was efficient as he tossed 5 TDs in the route. The Saints defense smothered Aaron Rodgers leading to his worse game ever. Carolina opened the season with a win as Christian McCaffrey looked like one of the best running backs again. Sam Darnold played well in the win and the Panthers defense made key plays. This will be a much tougher task for the Panthers though. I’m riding with the Saints to win once again. New Orleans Win 31-17
We head to Arizona as the Cardinals will host the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings opened their season by getting beat by the Cincinnati Bengals. Arizona shocked everyone as they dismantled the Tennessee Titans. Minnesota is hoping to get their running game against Cincinnati. If the Vikings are going to be successful this season, Dalvin Cook will need to be the runner they gave the extension to. Can they rebound and beat the Cardinals? Arizona played a damn near perfect game on both sides of the ball. Kyler Murray was phenomenal and Chandler Jones torched the Tennessee offensive line. Can they repeat their performance from a week ago? I’m picking the Cardinals to get upset this week. Minnesota Win 26-24
We head out to the west coast as the Los Angeles Chargers host the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas dropped their opener in a hard fought battle against the defending champion Buccaneers. The Chargers were able to hold off the Washington Football Team on the road. The Cowboys enter the game without All-Pro Demarcus Lawrence. The veteran defensive end will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks with a broken foot. The Cowboys offense can shoot it out with anyone, but can the defense pressure Justin Herbert enough? Justin Herbert threw for over 300 yards in the win a week ago. Los Angeles will need help in the running game to keep the Cowboys offense off the field. This could turn into one of the better games of the week, but I’m going with the Cowboys to pick up the win. Dallas Win 31-28
We stay out west for this matchup as the Seattle Seahawks host the Tennessee Titans in their home opener. The Seahawks started their season off with a huge road win in Indianapolis. On the other hand, the Titans were embarrassed in their game against the Cardinals. Ryan Tannehill will need to be better protected seeing Chandler Jones sacked him 6 times alone. Derrick Henry will need to be a factor if the Titans can avoid an 0-2 start to the season. Can the Titans rebound from their Week 1 beat down? Seattle went to Indianapolis and took care of business as Russell Wilson had all the time in the world. The defense looks revitalized as they smothered the Colts offense. Can they continue that against the mighty Tennessee offense? I’m picking the Titans to get the road win. Tennessee Win 26-21
We have the Sunday Night game between two of the most exciting QBs in the league. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs head to the Baltimore to face Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Whenever these two teams meet up there is always excitement. Mahomes have bested Jackson as the Ravens are hoping to prove they’re Super Bowl contenders. Kansas City outlasted the Browns in their opener in a high scoring game. On Monday night, the Ravens fell to the Raiders in an overtime thriller to finish off Week 1. Can the Chiefs continue to get the best of the Baltimore Ravens? Will the Ravens rebound to pull off the upset and avoid an 0-2 start? This is a tough one, but the Ravens are still trying to find an identity on offense. Kansas City should get by the Ravens in a tough one. Kansas City Win 30-27
We have the Monday Night game between NFC North rivals. The Detroit Lions travel to Green Bay and Lambeau Field to face the Packers. Both teams enter this game with 0-1 records after heartbreaking losses. The Lions stormed back against the 49ers after falling down big. On the other hand, Green Bay was embarrassed by the New Orleans Saints. Aaron Rodgers was pulled after playing his worse game of his career. Can the Packers rebound? Detroit fell down big at home to San Francisco, but they turned things around and almost pulled off the upset. How will Jared Goff and the offense handle the Monday Night pressure in Green Bay? As far as Green Bay is concerned, was Week 1 a one-time thing or could this be a long season for them? Aaron Rodgers will rebound, and the Packers win. Green Bay Win 38-24
