Welcome to Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season in what has been an exciting couple of weeks. My record from a week ago was 8-4, which pushed my overall mark to 13-8. My winning percentage heading into Week 3 is 61.9% which means I’m below my targeted mark. The Los Angeles Rams continue to impress as they outlasted the Colts on the road. Buffalo rebounded nicely in Miami as they blanked the Dolphins. The Las Vegas Raiders are looking like real contenders early on after beating the Steelers on the road. The Titans, Cowboys and Patriots picked up their first victory of the season on the road. Carolina, Tampa Bay, San Francisco, and Arizona remain unbeaten early on. The game of the week went to the Ravens and Chiefs as Baltimore outlasted Kansas City 36-35 in an epic thriller. I’ll be predicting about 12 games this week.
As always, we kick things off with the Thursday night game. The undefeated Carolina Panthers will make the trip to Houston to face the Texans. Carolina is one of the surprise teams in the league as they have started 2-0. One of those wins was a very convincing one over the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers offense has been efficient, Christian McCaffrey have returned to form and Sam Darnold is playing great. On defense, they’re not giving up the big play and have been smothering opposing offenses. Houston will probably be without Tyrod Taylor as he’s dealing with an hamstring injury. With all the holes on both sides of the ball, the Texans still have surprisingly looked good. Can they stop the Panthers offense? Will they put up points on the board? I’m riding with the Panthers to go 3-0. Carolina Win 30-17
We have the Washington Football Team heading to Buffalo to battle the Bills. Washington escaped last week with a last-second FG to beat the Giants. Taylor Heinicke looked great in relief of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Washington is hoping to leave with a win and still remain tied for first place in the division. Can this elite defensive line put enough pressure on Josh Allen to leave with the win? Buffalo looked like the team many thought they’d be last week when they decimated the Dolphins. The Bills have been looked at as one of favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Can Josh Allen put up an MVP-level type performance? This should be a good one, but I’m taking the Bills. Buffalo Win 31-21
We have the Chicago Bears taking a nice trip to Cleveland to battle the Browns. The Bears will be starting Justin Fields as Andy Dalton is still nursing a knee injury. The Bears offensive line will have a tough time with the Browns defensive line. This will be a tough spot for the rookie signal caller against a tough Cleveland defense. The Bears defense will need to create turnovers for them to have a chance in this one. Cleveland is coming off a tough win at home against Houston. The Bears should be a much tougher matchup and Baker Mayfield can’t turn the ball over. Will the Browns running game be enough to catapult the Browns into their second consecutive victory? I’m going with the Browns in this one. Cleveland Win 27-17
We have a division battle as the Los Angeles Chargers head to Kansas City to battle the Chiefs. Both teams are coming off disappointing losses the previous week. The Chargers fell to Dallas on a field goal as time expired. The Chiefs fell to the Ravens in a Sunday Night thriller. The Chiefs and Chargers trail the Raiders and Broncos in the division. The offense and defense for the Chargers have been solid in the first two games. The Chiefs offense is so explosive that it’s scary at times. On the defensive side, Kansas City cannot stop the run for nothing. Los Angeles will use a heavy dose of running to set up the play action and keep Mahomes off the field. Will it be enough to pull off the upset? I’m not envisioning the Chiefs dropping 2 in a row. Kansas City Win 35-24
We have the New Orleans Saints traveling up north to New England to face the Patriots. After a very impressive win in Week 1, the Saints were ran out of Carolina. Which Saints team will show up in New England? New Orleans still have a stout defense that could frustrate Mac Jones. The offense is still trying to find an identity. New England is playing it safe on the offensive side with their rookie signal caller. The defense is one of the better ones in the league. They forced Zach Wilson to throw four picks a week ago. They will frustrate Winston and lead the Patriots to the win. New England Win 27-20
We have the Cincinnati Bengals traveling to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. The division rivals are both coming off of losses. The Bengals opened the season with a win over the Minnesota Vikings. The fell to the Bears by a field goal last week. Pittsburgh is coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Raiders a week after defeating Buffalo. The division rivals are 1-1 along with the Browns and Ravens. Big Ben is entering this game with a pectoral injury and that’s something to keep an eye on. Cincinnati is looking like a team on the rise, but the offensive line is still a work in progress. If T.J. Watt is healthy for this game, this could spell trouble for Joe Burrow. I’m still picking the Steelers to barely edge the Bengals. Pittsburgh Win 24-21
We head to Las Vegas as the Raiders host the Miami Dolphins. The Miami Dolphins are coming off an awful game last week. They were blanked by the Buffalo Bills 35-0. They lost Tua to a rib injury as he was carted off the field. As of now, we don’t know his status for the game. On the other hand, Las Vegas is one of the surprising teams in the league. The Raiders have beaten the Ravens and Steelers to begin their season. Derek Carr is looking like an early season MVP candidate with his stellar play. The defense has been getting after the ball and making key stops. Could the Raiders be headed for a letdown game? I’m riding the Raiders bandwagon and think they win. Las Vegas Win 31-20
We have one of the more anticipated games of the year so far. The Los Angeles Rams travel to Tampa to face the defending champion Bucs. Matthew Stafford and the Rams offense have looked amazing in the first two games. We already know the defense is one of the best in the league. Can Aaron Donald pressure Brady enough to force mistakes? Tampa Bay is looking like they have gotten better in the first two games. They have scored 79 points in the first two games of the season. Gronk have looked great and dare I say that Tom Brady has looked better than ever. This could be a potential NFC Championship preview. This is a tough one, but I’m picking the Bucs to edge the Rams. Tampa Bay Win 34-31
We have the Sunday Night game as the Green Bay Packers travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers. Green Bay picked up their first win against the Lions last week after being beat down by the Saints. Aaron Rodgers was efficient, and Aaron Jones scored 4 TDs in the win. How will the defense fare against a tough 49ers receiving core? Can the Packers offense continue their scoring ways from a week ago? San Francisco have started the season 2-0 and they have done it with their stout defense. San Francisco’s defense held the Eagles offense in check throughout the game. With Aaron Rodgers, they will need a much better performance if they are going to leave 3-0. This is another tough one to pick, but I’m going with the Packers to win this one on the road. Green Bay Win 27-24
We have the final game of the week and it’s the Monday Night game. The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Dallas to face their heated rival in the Cowboys. Both teams enter this contest with 1-1 records, and one could leave atop of the division. The Eagles offense looked great in Week 1, but they stalled in their game against the Niners last week. Philadelphia lost Brandon Brooks on offense and Brandon Graham on defense last week. This will be a huge blow in their matchup with Dallas. Dak land the Cowboys offense looked amazing in Week 1, but not so much in their game against the Chargers. The running game looked great, and it will be key for them in this game. I’m picking Dallas to leave with the win and be on top of the NFC East. Dallas Win 34-24
