Great Times Spending the Weekend in Chattanooga

Great Times Spending the Weekend in Chattanooga

My wife and I had our kids at an early age and that’s something we are happy about. At first, things were a struggle but eventually we found our footing, and everything turned out great. We are in our early 40s now with two adult kids and our youngest a junior in high school. At this point in life, we would like to do some traveling and just get out when we want to. Recently, we bought a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder so we could just leave when we want to. Last weekend, we started our traveling and decided to head to Chattanooga, Tennessee. It’s around 2.5 hours from our home so it wasn’t a bad trip at all. We have been to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg with the kids several times, so we decided on Chattanooga. We are big fans of the mountains, especially in the fall and wintertime.

We usually get a cabin or stay at a resort when we go to the mountains, but we went without the kids. The first place we went to was Ruby Falls where the scenery is beautiful. We thought about doing the High Point Zip Adventure, but neither of us are the adventurous type and I’m scared of heights. We opted for the Cave Adventures because we are huge fans of anything related to history. You are walking in a cave that was discovered almost 100 years ago. Throughout the walk through the cave, there was a lot of ducking seeing I’m pretty tall. While walking with our leader, he made many stops to give you a history lesson. At the end, you finally get to see the waterfall and it’s beautiful. We had a chance to take many pictures, and this is one thing we definitely recommend you checking out.

Our next stop was the Tennessee Aquarium. This would make the third different aquarium we have visited. We have visited the one here in Atlanta and the Ripley’s Aquarium in Gatlinburg. The aquarium in Chattanooga was just as impressive as the others. We are big fans of the penguins and all the various kinds of fish and species in the water. You get the see the tropical side and the many different kinds of fish in the sea. We had fun walking and viewing both sides of the aquarium. For me, what sets this aquarium apart from the other two is that is on the river. The scenery is amazing and relaxing to be able to go sit on the river. The Tennessee Aquarium is another place we would tell anyone to check out when in Chattanooga.

We didn’t visit as many places as we would normally have because we are still dealing with Covid. While downtown, we just walked around for the rest of the day just to enjoy the beautiful weather. Afterwards, we asked a few people about some great spots to eat. Most of them referred us to Uncle Larry’s because we either wanted fish or soul food. Uncle Larry’s was the best of both worlds because they had both and they were good. My wife ordered the Tilapia with the slaw and baked beans. My order the was the Catfish along with the turnip greens and fried okra, plus we both had hushpuppies. Everything was amazing, plus the service was some of the best we ever had. Before leaving, she ordered a piece of red velvet cake, and my choice was key lime. All the food was top-notched and so was the cake.

As you can see, our first outing was a success, and we are planning our next getaway. We are looking to do this around Thanksgiving time, if not then maybe Christmas. Either way, we will be enjoying this time in our lives, but we may take the kid’s next time.
