A Few Reasons to Stay Active and to Keep Trying New Things

Life has the potential to be a great adventure, filled with all sorts of new and exciting experiences on a regular basis, and there are so many different activities and pastimes to try out, that it seems like it would be almost impossible to become bored.

Nonetheless, many of us – maybe all of us – end up falling into periods of passivity and inaction, at least from time to time – instead of remaining active and curious about the world around us.

Whether in the sense of trying out an exciting activity such as SCUBA diving with Dip ‘N Dive, though, or whether just by taking up a new creative hobby from the comfort of your own home, there are many great reasons to stay active and keep trying new things in life.

Here are some of those reasons.

A lot of the greatest insights and experiences in life come from staying in motion and confronting the unknown

It’s probably fair to say that most people would like a life that is rich in memorable experiences, and in powerful and uplifting insights. But there is a real argument to be made that these things can only really be achieved through staying in motion, and regularly confronting the unknown.

While it’s important to be able to introspect, and to think things through, the rubber really hits the road when we do things we haven’t done before, and when we actively take charge of the course of our lives by being active, instead of just pondering.

Action and curiosity may be the ultimate path to developing insight and accumulating memorable life experiences.

Experiencing new things head-on is a great antidote to your own limited perspectives and flawed mental maps

Over the course of everyday life, we all end up making certain assumptions about things, and drawing conclusions based on our experiences to date, and the beliefs about the world we have internalized.

This ends up creating certain “mental maps” and perspectives of the world that shape our sense of what is possible, among other things.

The thing is, our mental maps are often quite flawed, and can easily lead to limiting beliefs and other things that keep us from truly exploring and expressing our potential.

Experiencing new things head-on is a great antidote to your limited perspectives and flawed mental maps, as they can challenge your assumptions, and can give you a new outlook to consider.

Your health, well-being, and zest for life are likely to be much higher if you keep active and try new things regularly

According to some research, elderly individuals who stay active and keep exploring different hobbies tend to be mentally sharper, and end up enjoying a higher sense of well-being, than those who don’t.

Just in general, your health, well-being, and zest for life are likely to be much higher if you stay active and keep trying new things consistently. Every time you take action, you remind yourself of your ability to influence your life and your circumstances. And every time you try something new, you remind yourself of the great and unfolding adventure of life.
