Boogie Down Productions Released Criminal Minded 35 Years Ago

KRS-One is widely considered one of the greatest rappers of all-time. He was definitely one of the MCs that made the original Golden Era of Hip Hop special. KRS-One formed the Boogie Down Productions with DJ Scott LaRock. They released their debut album 35 years ago today and it was called Criminal Minded. Criminal Minded is considered a classic and has appeared on many lists of all-time greatest rap albums. Unfortunately, DJ Scott LaRock was killed less than six months later. Boogie Down Productions released their first single off the album the year prior. South Bronx was the name of it and song serves as a diss track aimed at MC Shan in response to his song “The Bridge”. South Bronx was a hard track and Boogie Down Productions didn’t stop there with the diss tracks. On the day of the release of Criminal Minded they dropped The Bridge is Over.

The Bridge is Over was aimed at MC Shan, Marley Marl, the Juice Crew and rappers from Queens, NY, and the Queensbridge projects. The track has been sampled by the likes of Nas, 50 Cent, Rihanna, MC Ren, and many others. 50 Cent, MC Ren, Nas, and many other rappers has named the album as one of their all-time favorites. My Throwback Thursday track isn’t a track, but the Criminal Minded album. With this being the 35th anniversary of the Criminal Minded album this is an exception.
