When you have a family, its’ really easy to accumulate stuff from clothing to toys to just about everything you can think of, and this is not a problem when you have plenty of space for it all and you can keep your home safe, clean and tidy.
However, there often comes a point when you simply have too much stuff, and getting rid of some would be beneficial for your home and your family. But, how do you know when you have reached that point?
Here are some tell-tale signs that you probably do have too much stuff in your home, and that a declutter may be in order:
1. You can’t find anything
If you can’t find that Philip’s head screwdriver when you need it, or you spend more time than is reasonable looking for your summer shirts, then it is a clear sign that you have too much stuff. Getting rid of your clutter will make your life easier because you won’t have to wade through all kinds of accumulated junk before you upon the thing you need when you need it.
2. You find it impossible to relax
If you dread walking into the house every night after a hard day of work or wrangling the kids, and you know that’s because the house will be messy and you know you’ll have to pick things up or sort out various files or whatever before you can relax, then you know that it’s to look into budget storage for your excess stuff or that you need to get your declutter on. Do a little at a time and pretty soon your home will feel like new.
3. Stuff tends to get lost
If you are forever losing things, from items of clothing to kitchen cutlery, then chances are you are losing them, not because you are forgetful or because you do not treat your stuff with respect, but because your home is disorganized, and you have more stuff than you have proper places for. If that rings true, time to downsize your stuff and get organizing.
4. Chores take forever
If it seems like you and your family are spending more time at the weekends on chores and tidying than you are doing fun stuff together, whether it be ball games in the park or a board game in the kitchen, could it be that you have so much stuff in your home that cleaning, sorting and putting it away is becoming a problem? If so, you know what to do.
5. You don’t even know what you own
If you have so much stuff that is stored away in boxes n the basement or taking u endless pace in the garage that you don’t even know exactly what it is that you own, then you know that you can, at the very least, get rid of most of that stuff without it hurting you at all, and you’ll have far more spade to play with if you do!
If these tell-tale signs are all too familiar in your home, it could be time to channel your inner Marie Kondo and clear out your space!
