After the SMP treatment in Arizona (AZ), you will want to emphasize caution. It’s better to be careful with your scalp post-treatment. You won’t want to get it wet until it’s healed. You especially want to avoid harsh chemicals like chlorine. The healing process will begin pretty much immediately post-procedure. You want to avoid washing your hair and scalp afterward for 5 days.

This is completely normal and these scabs are going to fade away after a week or so.

You also want to avoid excessive sweating as much as possible. While you can sweat here and there, it’s best to avoid strenuous exercise that is going to have you sweating profusely. Any excessive sweating is going to result in fading. You want to avoid sweating to keep the pigment from fading. Stick to avoiding excessive workouts for 5 days post-procedure. This should be enough to allow your pigment to set. You also should avoid touching your hair and scalp for at least 5 days. Days 5 to 7

Once day 5 hits, you can start to wash your hair and scalp. However, you want to use a mild shampoo.

The best way to do it is by using a mild shampoo and by gently massaging it. Don’t use anything that has harsh chemicals or exfoliants yet. You want to wash your hair and scalp with a sulfate-free shampoo in water that is warm but not too hot.

At this point, you could potentially shave your head. It’s best to wait for at least 10 days for a wet shave. However, you can start using an electric shaver as early as day 5.

Day 8 to 14

At this point, you need to start moisturizing actively. You want to do this to keep your scalp from getting too dry.

You want to avoid scratching your scalp if at all possible. Any scratching could cause bleeding and lead to infections of your scalp. If your head is itching, you’ll want to continue to moisturize more. Try to use a good moisturizer that locks in moisture into your scalp. Using a moisturizer can help your scalp heal quicker.

Day 15 to 30

When day 15 comes, you’re likely going to be ready to start getting back to your normal routine. Luckily, there are only a couple of things you need to continue to avoid until you hit the 30-day mark. Try to avoid exposing your scalp to both the sun and any harsh chemicals in the pool.

You also want to avoid anything that is going to impact the pigments on your skin. This includes going to the steam room or sauna. You also want to avoid having your head exposed too much outdoors. If you must, apply as much SPF 50 on your head as possible.

Aftercare Routine Tips:

You will still need to implement some aftercare tips beyond 30 days to sustain the best results for as long as possible.

– Avoid The Tanning Bed

One of the key things you want to do is avoid going to the tanning bed. This is only going to cause fading and result in your pigments getting lightened.

– Regularly moisturize your scalp.

– Don’t Use AHA Products

Try to avoid using any AHA products on your scalp. This is only going to fade away the pigments.
