On the outside, the BMW M5 looks like a regular executive saloon. It’s long, smart, and doesn’t have any crazy bodywork. It’s also very safe and spacious: great for wives and kids.

However, it does harbor a little secret: a 6.6-liter V8 engine with more than 600 bhp. Now we’re talking!

Just don’t tell anyone about the crazy depreciation rate, and the fact that you’ll need to check engine light diagnostics every five minutes.

Range Rover Sport SVR

Dad Cars That Look Tame On The Outside But Are Monsters Under The Hood

The Range Rover Sport SVR is another outwardly respectable vehicle for the sensible and mature father. Its bulky cabin is great for kids, and it is comfortable, luxurious, and relatively safe.

However, the car is hiding a dirty little secret. It has a massive thumping great big V8 under the hood, capable of putting out a ridiculous 575 bhp.

Just to put that performance into perspective, it’s actually the same as the Jaguar XJ220, the second-fastest supercar available in the early 1990s. As such, you’ll be able to do the groceries in this vehicle while revving up to 60 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds.

Mercedes-AMG E63 Wagon

The Mercedes-AMG E63 Wagon is a real wolf in sheep’s clothing. The exterior of the vehicle looks like a practical estate car, if not a hearse. However, this dark horse is harboring a dirty little secret. While there is plenty of space for a dog crate in the back and skis on the roof, the power of the vehicle is truly monstrous. This Jekyll and Hyde-style Frankenstein of a vehicle produces 603 bhp, thanks to its AMG moniker, making it one of the most powerful vehicles available on the road.

Mercedes R63 AMG

Lastly, we have the Mercedes R63 AMG. On the outside, it is even more boring than the E63 with its minivan shape and ugly front lights. However, yet again, AMG comes to the rescue, providing a massive 507 bhp under the hood.
