The 2023 college football championship game is finally set. The Georgia Bulldogs will battle the TCU Horned Frogs for the title. Who had the TCU Horned Frogs in the championship game? Many people thought Georgia would be back to defending their championship. My college playoff prediction had Georgia battling Michigan in a rematch from last year’s semifinal. The TCU Horned Frogs defeated Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl 51-45. Georgia defeated Ohio State 42-41 in the Peach Bowl. Both games were great, and the championship game should be also. The college football championship game will take place in Los Angeles on SoFi Field. Will Georgia become the first school to repeat since Alabama dd it in 2011-2012? Can TCU capture their first championship since 1938?
The Georgia Bulldogs were the best team in college throughout the season. Georgia started the season by destroying Oregon 49-3 to set the precedent for the season. They steamrolled the competition all season and they met up with Tennessee late in the season. At the time, the Volunteers were the #1 team in the country. The defense of Georgia blanketed the Volunteers and held the high-powered offense to 13 points. In the SEC Championship game, they blew out LSU while putting up 50 points. After beating the Ohio State after the Buckeyes missed a game winning field goal, will the Dogs repeat? Jaylen Carter is arguably the best player in the country, will he dominate the TCU offensive line? Will Stetson Bennett go from walk-on to 2-time champion? Can this Bulldogs secondary hold up against the talented Horned Frogs receivers?
Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Texas, and Baylor all were looked at as the class of the Big-12 conference. TCU wasn’t even ranked at the start of the season and Max Duggan wasn’t the starter. TCU started to open everyone’s eyes after defeating four teams that were ranked. They beat Oklahoma, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Kansas State in consecutive games. They finished the regular season undefeated. Unfortunately, they fell to Kansas State in the Big-12 championship game. With USC losing, it opened the door for them, but the loss was their only one also. Max Duggan went on to finish second in the Heisman voting. In their game against Michigan, many had the previously undefeated Wolverines winning. The Horned Frogs exploded for 51 points to surprise Michigan and advance to the title game. Does TCU have another surprise in them? Can Max Duggan lead this Horned Frogs team to one last win?
TCU has the heart of a champion and Max Duggan is as good as it gets. Will Kendre Miller be available for the championship game? Quentin Johnson is arguably the best WR in college football. How will the Bulldogs defense play him? TCU comes into this game 3rd in scoring and can put in points quickly with the offense and defense. On the other hand, the Bulldogs are looking to cement themselves as a repeat champion. One of the Georgia’s talented tight ends Darnell Washington could miss the game with an ankle injury. Georgia has plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. If they can protect Stetson Bennett, they will capture the championship. This could be a nail-biter, but in the end, I’m picking Georgia to repeat as champions. Bulldogs Win 42-31
