First off, prayers go out to Damar Hamlin and his family as he’s battling for his life. If you don’t know, Hamlin collapsed in the Bulls game against the Bengals. The game was eventually called, and support continues to pour in for his condition to improve. What a way to end Week 17 of NFL action. My Week 17 NFL predictions garnered a 9-3 record. My overall mark is 104-50 and the winning percentage went from 66.9 to 67.5%. The Eagles dropping their second consecutive game was my first defeat. New Orleans went on the road and slowed down the high-powered offense beating them 20-10. With the playoffs still on the line, the Washington Commanders fell to Cleveland in a must-win game. The Browns were already eliminated from playoff consideration at the time. Carson Wentz looked horrendous as he tossed 3 INTs in defeat.
The final loss came when Kenny Pickett lead Pittsburgh on a game winning drive to beat Baltimore. The win kept the Steelers alive for the final Wild Card spot in the AFC. Pittsburgh along with New England and Miami are battling for the final spot. If New England beats Buffalo, then they secure that spot. If they lose, Miami must defeat the Jets to earn the final Wild Card spot. If New England and Miami lose, Pittsburgh gets in if they can beat Cleveland. The Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals are all still in the hunt for the top seed in the AFC playoffs. In the NFC, there’s also three teams fighting for the final Wild Card spot. Seattle, Green Bay and Detroit are al vying for the final slot.
If Seattle wins against the Rams, they will need Green Bay to lose. If Detroit beats Green Bay and Seattle lose, they are in, and the Packers are in with a win over Detroit. Green Bay controls their own destiny by just winning against the Lions. The top spot in the NFC is up for grabs between 3 teams. The Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. If the Eagles win, they secure the NFC East and top seed. If they lose and the 49ers would secure the top spot and the Cowboys, the NFC East with a victory. Dallas would earn the top seed if they were to win, and the 49ers and Eagles lost. We have a lot of moving pieces in the final weekend of the regular season. I’ll be predicting a total of 11 games.
We kick things off with the first game on Saturday evening between AFC West rivals. The Kansas City Chiefs head to Las Vegas to battle the Raiders. The Chiefs are still in the running for the top seed in the AFC. They are tied with the Bills in the loss column, but Buffalo beat them earlier in the season. We still don’t know what’s going to happen with the Bills scheduled game against Cincinnati. Kansas City have won 9 of 10 games and many think Patrick Mahomes is the league MVP. Las Vegas is playing for respect and to finish the season on a strong note. They almost pulled off the upset against the 49ers last week. Jarrett Stidham played an outstanding game and opened many eyes. Kansas City has tape on him and will defeat the Raiders to end their season. Chiefs Win 31-28
The second game on Saturday is for the AFC South crown. The Tennessee Titans head down to Jacksonville to battle the Jaguars. Tennessee have dropped six games in a row heading into this finale. They rested their key players last week against Dallas to have as many healthy. Joshua Dobbs played well against the Cowboys, so he’ll get the start for the injured Ryan Tannehill. Can the Titans end their losing streak and punch a ticket to another playoff? Jacksonville have won 4 games in a row headed into this showdown. The defense is starting to improve seeing they have only given up 3 points in the last two games. Trevor Lawrence is showing why he’s been considered a generational talent lately. The running is also great, so this points to Jacksonville winning and advancing to the playoffs. Jaguars Win 31-20
We stay in the AFC for this matchup. The New England Patriots head to Buffalo to take on the Bills. The Patriots are currently in the final Wild Card spot after their win over Miami. The Dolphins and Steelers are still vying for that final spot. New England, Pittsburgh and Miami all have 8-8 records, but the Patriots are the only ones that control their own destiny. Can New England win and secure their spot in the playoffs? We all now know that the Bills and Bengals game is now cancelled and will not be made up. Buffalo is now percentage points behind the Chiefs for the top seed. It has now been said that the AFC Championship game could be played on a neutral site. I’m picking Buffalo to win this emotional game for Damar Hamlin. Bills Win 24-21
We head to the NFC North as the Minnesota Vikings travels to Chicago to meet the Bears. Minnesota is playing with hopes of securing the 2nd seed in the playoffs. With the 2nd seed, they could host two playoffs’ games before the title game. They would need to win in Chicago and have the 49ers lose their finale. The Vikings were embarrassed last week in Green Bay as the Packers won 41-17. Is there concern in Minnesota? They have lost two of four games and they should have lost the other two. With Chicago, they still have a shot at securing the #1 overall pick in the upcoming draft. The Bears have lost 9 in a row heading into this contest. Chicago would need to lose and Houston win to secure that spot. Minnesota should leave with the win. Vikings Win 30-20
We head to the AFC North in a battle of the 2 top teams. The Baltimore Ravens head to Cincinnati to meet the 1st place Bengals. It shows how much the Ravens depend on Lamar Jackson. In the 5 games he’s missed, the offense hasn’t scored more than 17 points. As a matter of fact, the team is averaging a little under 12 points per game. Jackson will miss this game and his availability for the playoffs are uncertain. Baltimore is fighting with the Chargers for the 5th seed in the playoffs. The 5th seed would face either Jacksonville or Tennessee. The 6th seed could possibly have you facing a red-hot Cincinnati team. The Bengals were involved in the game when Damar Hamlin was injured. How will affect this team? Cincinnati haven’t lost a game in two months and I’m picking them here. Bengals Win 23-14
The New York Jets head down to south beach to battle the Miami Dolphins. The Jets were officially eliminated from playoff consideration a week ago. New York come into this game losers of five games in a row. The Jets are turning to Joe Flacco for the final game of the year. New York wants to end the year on a positive note and end their losing streak. They also could play spoiler for the playoff chances of the Dolphins. As far as Miami goes, they are still in the playoff mix. Miami is hoping that Buffalo takes care of the Patriots for the Dolphins to have a shot. Tua is in concussion protocol and Teddy Bridgewater got a dislocated finger on his throwing hand. The Dolphins will turn to rookie Skylar Thompson with a playoff berth on the line. I’m going with New York. Jets Win 24-20
The Cleveland Browns travels to Pittsburgh to battle the Steelers. Cleveland is officially eliminated from playoff consideration but would love to spoil the chances of Pittsburgh. The Browns are hoping to end the season on a high note. Deshaun Watson is beginning to find his footing after an almost 2-year absence. The defense is starting to look like a top defense, but they will be without Jadeveon Clowney. Clowney was dismissed from the team after his comments about the team. Pittsburgh have won three in a row and find themselves with a chance to make it. Mike Tomlin is also looking to make it his 16th consecutive year without a losing record. Kenny Pickett is starting to find his groove as the signal caller. Pittsburgh should make it 4 in a row and hope to make the playoffs. Steelers Win 20-17
The Los Angeles Chargers head to the Mile High State to face the Denver Broncos. The Chargers are finally healthy, and they enter this game on a 4-game winning streak. Los Angeles is probably the scariest team entering the playoffs. Justin Herbert is as good as any quarterback in the league. Austin Ekeler can beat you on the ground or catching passes out of the backfield. The defense will have a healthy Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack entering the playoffs. The Broncos season has been a disaster. Some people are saying that Russell Wilson is washed. The team has been fighting each other as it’s just a bad situation. They have lost 7 of 8 games heading into their season finale. Los Angeles clinches the 5th seed by defeating Denver. Chargers Win 27-17
We have the New York Giants making the trip to Philadelphia to battle the Eagles. This game has a lot on the line for the Eagles. New York will be the 6th seed and will be on the road next week for the opening round of the playoffs. The Giants could rest some of their starters as they prepare for their Wild Card game next weekend. They could be facing the Vikings, 49ers or even the Eagles next week. For the Eagles, it’s simple because a win and they clinch the NFC East and top seed. With a loss, they could fall all the way down to the 5th seed. Jalen Hurts could return after the Eagles drop their last two games in his absence. Philadelphia finds inspiration with a returning Hurts and win this one. Eagles Win 30-20
We head out west as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona has lost six games in a row and the season can’t end quick enough. As we all know, this is the final game in the Hall-Of-Fame career of J.J. Watt. This same Cardinals team lost to the 49ers to begin their 6-game slide. Can J.J. Watt find it in himself and disrupt the offense and cause havoc? Can the Cardinals shock the Niners in J.J. Watt’s final game? The 49ers are looking for an opportunity to get the #1 seed in the NFC. San Francisco need to win this one and have Philly lose against the Giants. Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell return to an already explosive offense. San Francisco will win and hope Philly falls. 49ers Win 34-14
We stay in the NFC West as the Los Angeles Rams travels to Seattle to battle the Seahawks. After winning the Super Bowl a year ago, the Rams have had an awful season. The Rams is hoping to end their season on a high note. They could ruin the playoff chances for the Seahawks. They lost to this Seattle team over a month ago at home. Will the Los Angeles Rams play spoiler to Seattle and end their playoff hopes? Geno Smith is in line to be the comeback player of the year after his season. Seattle ended their 3-game losing streak last week against the New York Jets. The Seahawks expect Tyler Lockett to be in the lineup for their finale. Can the defense get enough pressure on Baker Mayfield to force turnovers? Seattle wins and hope that Green Bay loses. Seahawks Win 24-20
The Dallas Cowboys travels to Washington to battle the Commanders. The Cowboys have won 6 of their last 7 games heading into the season finale. Dallas is currently the 5th seed in the NFC for the playoffs. The Cowboys could end up being the 1st or 2nd seed in the NFC playoffs with help. If they win and the Eagles lose, they win the NFC East. If the 49ers also lose their game and Dallas win, they would be the top seed. Dallas is the 2nd seed with a Philly lost and Niners win. Washington haven’t won a game in a month, and many are questioning starting Wentz over Taylor Heinicke. Heinicke will get the start in the season finale. He will be playing to show management he deserves a shot as the starter next season. Dallas will win against the Commanders. Cowboys Win 31-21
The final game of the regular season will be a battle of NFC North rivals looking to make the playoffs. The Detroit Lions head to Lambeau Field to battle the Green Bay Packers. Detroit enters this contest winners of four of their last five games. The Lions would need to beat the Packers and have Seattle lose to the Rams. Detroit is a real feel-good story, and many will be cheering on them. After their 1-6 start, they could make the playoffs. Green Bay has won four in a row and now find themselves on the brink of the playoffs. Aaron Rodgers is finally on the same page as his young receivers. Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillion is one of the best 1-2 punches in the league. The defense is giving up an average of 17 points during the winning streak. Green Bay wins this tough one. Packers Win 34-27
