The Fugees were one of the highest selling acts in hip hop in the mid-1990s. Blunted on Reality was their first album that hit the store in 1994. Despite being a good album, it didn’t sell too well after its release. In 1996, they released their second album called The Score. The project was released on the same day as All Eyez on Me by 2Pac. The Score went on to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album. The album went on to sell over 7 million copies and Lauryn Hill was one of the hottest artists in the world. Lauryn Hill also was featured on the classic If I Ruled the World with Nas from It Was Written. Throughout the years, the Fugees have teased a reunion, but it never came to be. Unfortunately, with Pras from the Fugees being sentenced to prison it will never take place.
Two years later, Lauryn Hill released her much anticipated debut solo album. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was the name, and it has been named one of the more influential projects ever. Lauryn Hill was named as the 30th greatest rapper of all-time on Billboard. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill sold over 10 million records. She released three singles from the album, and they all went gold. One of those singles is my featured Throwback Thursday joint and its Ex-Factor. It won the Best R&B/Soul Single – Female award at the 2000 Soul Train Music Awards. In August, Lauryn Hill will celebrate the 25-year anniversary of the release of her debut album.
