The Roots have been putting it down for almost 30 years now. They hit the scene all the way back in 1994 with their From the Ground Up EP. Black Thought is one of the greatest rappers to ever touch the mic. Black Thought is listed as the 28th greatest rapper of all-time by Billboard magazine. There discography consists of fourteen studio albums, plus three collaborative studio albums, three compilation albums, two extended plays, and two live albums. In addition, that those joints, Black Thought has released three studio and three EPs also. In 1995 is when I became a huge fan of The Roots. The Do You Want More album was amazing they dropped that year. The following year they released my favorite album from them called Illadelph Halflife. Illadelph Halflife reached top 5 on the Billboard charts, but it didn’t sell as well as their previous joint.
Raphael Saadiq, Common, Q-Tip, D’Angelo and Bahamadia all made appearances on the album. The Roots released three singles and one of them is my featured Throwback Thursday joint. What They Do is the name of the song and it’s probably my favorite joint off the album. Check out the video for What They Do by The Roots for Throwback Thursday.
