Outkast ATLiens Released 25 Years Ago Today

Outkast is regarded as one of the best hip hop duos to ever touch the mic. Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was their debut back in 1994 and it was a classic. The album introduced the Goodie Mob and their first album, Soul Food was also a classic. The hip hop community was waiting to hear some new music from Outkast. Early in the summer of 1996, they released the first single, Elevators for their upcoming album. The album was called ATLiens and it was released 25 years ago today. ATLiens went on to go double platinum and has been called one of the greatest hip hop joints ever. Elevators was the first single…

Outkast Ms. Jackson for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday, as that mean we are closer to another weekend. First off, I’m hoping all the dads out there had an amazing Father’s Day. My playlist this week was highlighted by a couple of new albums and four mixtapes. The week started off with the new joints from Polo G and Gucci Mane. As far as the mixtapes, we had a nice blend one, a couple of slow jams and Street Wars 13.5. Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt, Keith Sweat and the Groove Theory project was also played. The final album was from Outkast and their Stankonia joint. Stankonia was the follow-up to the classic Aquemini album as it…

    Outkast Elevators for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. My playlist this week started off with the Exodus album from the late, great DMX. Trill by Bun B, Eminem’s Marshall Mathers LP 2 and Premro 2 by 8Ball was also played. Kizzy Rock, the joint from Talib Kweli & HiTek and Ice Cube’s Peace album made the list also. Any of those albums would be worthy of being featured, but I’ll go in a different direction. The History of the Dungeon Family mixtape was also played and it had some bangers. If you didn’t know, the Dungeon Family included Organized Noise, Outkast, Society of Soul and…

Outkast Released Stankonia 20 Years Ago Today

Outkast is known as one of the greatest hip hop duos to ever pick up a mic. Big Boi and Andre 3000 haven’t put an album out as Outkast in about 15 years. Till this day, they are still recognized as a pair of the best to ever do it in hip hop. 20 years ago, Outkast released their fourth album, Stankonia. Six years prior, they blessed the world with the Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik debut project. The platinum selling debut made them into instant stars and they introduced the world to the Goodie Mob. Two years later, they released the ATLiens joint and it went in another direction. ATLiens was another classic…

Listen to My Top 5 Albums from Outkast

Last week for my Music Monday, we highlighted the top 5 albums from Rick Ross. This week we’re celebrating the legendary Outkast and their top 5 albums. Outkast haven’t put out an album since Idlewild, which was the movie they put out. The Speakerboxxx/Love Below album was the last official one that came out over 15 years ago. Big Boi have continued to put out solo projects and Andre 3000 been focusing on acting. From time to time, 3 Stacks have appeared on a few tracks throughout the years. Despite not putting out music over the years, people still talk about Outkast and they’re one of the best duos ever.…

    Outkast Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik for Throwback Thursday

It’s hard to believe that Thursday have arrived once again. Once again, we are ready for another Throwback Thursday and we’re staying in Georgia for this one. Recently, for my sports section I’ve listed my 5 favorite college basketball teams. If I had a top 5 list of duos in hip hop, this group will definitely be at the top of the list. We’re talking about Outkast and we’re going back to their debut album. Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik made people recognize Georgia had some great music on the rise. Andre 3000 stated a long time ago that we grew up on booty shaking and we didn’t know no better thing. Those words…

Outkast Dropped Aquemini 20 Years Ago Today

20 years ago today was a momentous day if you’re a fan of hip hop. Jay-Z dropped his Hard Knock Life Volume 2 album and Outkast put out their classic, Aquemini. We saw the evolution of Outkast from Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik to ATLiens and now the Aquemini joint. Either way, despite being three different projects they all are considered classics. With Aquemini, many people are calling this their best album and one of the best ever in hip hop. A week after the release of the album, they release Rosa Parks as their first single. This was an incredibly dope, up-tempo track that was very successful. Later on, they were sued by…

International Players Anthem from UGK Featuring Outkast

While riding around the other day I was playing my multiple-disc UGK Greatest Hits album and came across this track. At the time, I didn’t really appreciate my Throwback Thursday track as it featured UGK & Outkast on the same track. International Players Anthem is one of the more underrated tracks ever as it dropped about 10 years ago before Pimp C passed away. Two of my favorite groups of all-time on one track couldn’t get better than this. After listening more and more to this track, it makes me miss Pimp C more and clamor for another Outkast album. Check out the video below and add the album to…

Outkast Dropped Their Debut Album 22 Years Ago Today

One of my all-time favorite groups and Atlanta’s own, Outkast dropped their debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik twenty-two years ago today. Before the album dropped, I remember having the gold & purple CD that was their debut single, Player’s Ball when they were passing them out. When people talk about Outkast, I don’t think many realize how impactful their sound was when they dropped because Atlanta was known for the club or booty-shaking music with the likes of Kilo, Raheem the Dream, DJ Kizzy Rock and many others. Outkast ushered in the player lifestyle, while bringing some dope lyrics in the process while introducing other acts in the process. On one of…

Don’t just think outside the box, know that there is no box. Killer Mike All 4 U for Throwback Thursday

Killer Mike just dropped one of my favorite albums this year in Michael. Michael is his 6th album and it’s a good album. Killer Mike is known more for his political stance and views he’s been sharing over the years. Mike recently teamed with T.I. to reopen a prominent seafood spot in Atlanta. While Mike has flexed his entrepreneurial skills, he’s been in the game for over 20 years now. In March of 2003, Killer Mike released his debut album called Monster. Monster debut at #4 and he boasted some big features on his debut joint. Outkast, T.I and Bun B all made appearances on Monster.  Mike dropped two singles…

Goodie Mob Beautiful Skin for Throwback Thursday

Goodie Mob is one of the most underrated rap groups to ever touch the mic. Of course, they are a part of the legendary Dungeon Family with Outkast. They were first introduced to the world on the classic Git Up, Git Out from Outkast’s debut Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. The following year they released their classic debut album, Soul Food. Soul Food has been mentioned by many as one of the most influential albums ever in hip hop. Two and a half years later, Goodie Mob released their second album called Still Standing. Still Standing went gold just like their debut album and it was another great project. They released two singles from…

Goodie Mob Cell Therapy for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday, as that means we’re closer to the weekend. My playlist this week included a couple of personal mixtapes from Ludacris and 1994 Hip Hop. The debut from Styles P, Real Talk by Fabolous and Back to the Future from Jodeci was also played. The one album that will be at the bottom to stream in the new one from the legendary Goodie Mob. Goodie Mob just released a damn good album called Survival Kit. Survival Kit is music this new generation need to hear and easily one of my favorite albums this year. For my Throwback Thursday, we are going back to 1995 when the Goodie…

Brandy and Monica The Boy is Mine for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday, this means we’re closer to the weekend. Many of us will have a three day weekend with Labor Day being Monday. My playlist was once again pretty nice with albums like YG’s My Krazy Life. My 1994 hip hop disc 1, J. Cole Greatest Hits Disc 2 and Jermaine Dupri’s Life in 1472 albums were played also. There were couple others, but we’re going in another direction for this week’s Throwback Thursday. With the record breaking Verzuz that took place between Brandy and Monica, we had to go there. It’s been said that over 6 million people viewed their epic encounter. We never expected to see…

Roger Troutman I Want to Be Your Man for Throwback Thursday

Once again, we have arrived at another Thursday which makes up closer to the weekend. My playlists this week consisted of the King album from T.I., Compton by Dr. Dre and Usher’s Raymond vs. Raymond. UGK’s Ridin Dirty, the Idlewild soundtrack from Outkast and a personal Ice Cube Greatest Hits. This week, the featured track comes from neither of those as we’re going in another direction. For some odd reason, Roger Troutman and Zapp tracks have been in my head all week. For my Throwback Thursday, we’re going with his classic I Want to Be Your Man off his Unlimited! album. I Want to Be Your Man is an…

Mr. Ku Born Threat for Throwback Thursday

My Mixtape Friday was one of my personal favorites I’ve ever done. The compilation was some of Georgia’s dopest hip hop records spanning about 30 years. OutKast, Goodie Mob, Raheem the Dream, T.I., Ludacris, Jeezy, Ghetto Mafia and Kilo Ali were among those included. Unfortunately, there are a lot of other artists who didn’t make the compilation. Many of my favorite tracks aren’t available on any streaming services which absolutely suck. One of those artists is my featured Throwback Thursday track and his name is Mr. Ku. Born Threat is the name of the record and it came out around the mid-90s. Born Threat from Mr. Ku appeared on several…

Best of Georgia Hip Hop for Mixtape Friday

For my first Mixtape Friday of the year, we had to do something special. Last week, we debuted the new track from Horus Gump and an idea came to me. Georgia has a lot of talent and have had their fair share of influential talent. We can go all the way back to Raheem the Dream, Kilo Ali and Freak Nasty. Outkast took the reins and became arguably the greatest duo ever in hip hop. The Dungeon Family and Goodie Mob became stars and Georgia hip hop was at an all-time high. T.I. and Ludacris took over that produced guys like Jeezy, Gucci, 2 Chainz and many more. With that,…
