Kamikaze by Twista Released 20 Years Ago Today

Twista dropped his first album back in 1992 under the name of Tung Twista. In 1994, he dropped his 2nd album called Resurrection, but only went by Twista then. Both albums didn’t get a lot of love, so we didn’t hear from him for a couple years. In 1996, Twista reemerged with Do or Die as he was featured on their smash hit Po Pimp. Due to the massive success of the single, Twista was back in the spotlight. The following year, he dropped his third album called Adrenaline Rush. Adrenaline Rush is considered by many, and I’m included to be a classic album. The album went platinum and Twista…

Classic Twista It Feels So Good for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. The week started off with the 2Pacalypse Now album and new joints from NBA Youngboy and 2 Chainz. There were a few personal mixtapes that were made by me included. There were 3 in total and one of them was representing the Midwest. When I’m talking Midwest it’s Do or Die, Top Authority, Twista and Dayton Family. Victory Lap from Nipsey Hussle, Another Bad Creation and Rihanna’s A Girl Like Me were played this week. My featured track is coming from that Midwest compilation that was put together several years ago. My Throwback Thursday track is from…

The Day After by Twista Dropped 15 Years Ago Today

Twista been in the game almost 30 years as he dropped Runnin’ Off at da Mouth back in 1992. Earlier in the year, Twista released an EP called Lifetime which was the follow-up to the Summer ’96 mixtape from 2019. For me, Twista wasn’t on my radar until he appeared on Po’ Pimp with Do or Die back in 1996. Actually, Twista appeared on a few tracks on Do or Die’s classic Picture This project. With the buzz Twista received from appearing with Do or Die he dropped his breakout joint the following year. Adrenaline Rush dropped in June 1997 and it was an instant classic. Adrenaline Rush went platinum…

Twista Overnight Celebrity with Kanye West for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday, this means we’re closer to the weekend. My playlist consisted of a mixture of R&B and some hip hop of course. Musiq Soulchild, Jamie Foxx and the debut from Jagged Edge was for the R&B side. For hip hop, Busta Rhymes, the Beautiful Struggle from Talib Kweli, Ice Cube’s debut and Twista. The Adrenaline Rush 2007 album from Twista was on my playlist, but it made me think about some older Twista. We’re going back to the album after his classic, Adrenaline Rush which was the Kamikaze joint. It took Twista almost 7 years to drop the Kamikaze album, but it was well worth the wait.…

Twista Dropped Category F5 10 Years Ago Today

Twista been in the rap game for well over 25 years. Twista have released 10 studio albums, a few collaborative projects and countless mixtapes. Last month, Twista dropped another mixtape called Summer ’96. Twista is one of the smoothest rappers to ever touch the mic. 10 years ago, Twista dropped his seventh album, Category F5 which was the follow-up to the Adrenaline Rush 2007 joint. Busta Rhymes, R. Kelly, Do or Die, Akon, Gucci Mane, Lil Boosie and OJ da Juiceman all appear on the album. Category F5 is another dope project from Twista. My favorite track is another classic with Do or Die. Do or Die and Twista is…

Adrenaline Rush by Twista Released 20 Years Ago

20 years ago today, Twista released his 3rd album, Adrenaline Rush. He was known as Tung Twista prior to just going by Twista. He didn’t get his proper recognition until his guest appearance on Chicago’s own, Do or Die smash-hit Po Pimp. After a few appearances on that Picture This album, everyone wanted to hear more from Twista. With that, he released his Adrenaline Rush album and it was well-received from everyone. Not only he possesses those rapid flows, but damn his music is smooth as hell. His first single from the album was Emotions and it was just another signature Twista track, which is a good thing. Get It…

New album from Twista & Do or Die

On May 19th, Twista and Do or Die will release a collaboration EP called Withdrawal as announced by Twista. This is something I’ve been waiting for ever since they released Po Pimp back in 1996 and my personal favorite from the, Playa Like Me & U that was on the debut album from Do or Die, Picture This. They worked together on a couple other tracks on that album and have appeared on several other tracks over the years with each other. With this new EP from them I’m actually excited and looking forward to some classic, smooth music from them.     https://youtu.be/jJOvp7xxoTQ   Twista made the announcement…

Kanye West The College Dropout Dropped 20 Years Ago

Kanye West is one of the most controversial musicians of all time. It feels like not a day goes by we don’t see or hear something crazy about Kanye. This is when people started saying we want the old Kanye back. Before all the madness and craziness with him, Kanye worked his way into the good graces of Roc-A-Fella Records. After producing some of Jay-Z’s classic Blueprint album he focused on his solo debut. The College Dropout was the name of his debut album, and it was released 20 years ago today. The College Dropout went on to win several awards for Album of the Year. The album went on…

Tear Da Club Up Thugs Released CrazyNDaLazDayz 25 Years Ago

First off, rest in peace to the late, great Gangsta Boo. She passed away a little over a year ago from a drug overdose. Lord Infamous and Koopsta Knicca from the group passed away in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Three 6 Mafia is one of the more underrated and best groups of all-time. Throughout the years they have had subgroups like the Tear Da Club Up Thugs. The Tear Da Club Up Thugs consisted of DJ Paul, Juicy J, and Lord Infamous. They dropped their only studio album CrazyNDaLazDayz 25 years ago today. CrazyNDaLazDayz went gold and it was a solid album. They had several features and some of them…

Back for the First Time was his debut album and it hit hard by selling over 3 million copies. The album produced several hits like Southern Hospitality and What’s Your Fantasy. Crucial Conflict Released The Final Tic 25 Years Ago Today

In the mid-90s, great hip hop music was represented in every area of the United States. During that time, the Midwest emerged with a brand new sound that took off. We all know about Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, but there were many others that followed. Twista, Do or Die, Top Authority, Dayton Family and many others were putting out great music. Crucial Conflict was another group to emerge during this time period. Crucial Conflict released The Final Tic 25 years ago today. The group consisted of Kilo, Wildstyle, Coldhard and Never. Two months before the release of the album, they dropped the only single for the album. Hay was the name and…

Whodini One Love for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. The new Snoop album, Trap or Die 3 from Jeezy and the Day After from Twista started my week. Mariah Carey’s Daydream, Getting’ It by Too Short and the Flockaveli joint from Waka Flocka was bumped also. Seeing DJ Khaled is dropping his new joint tomorrow, the Major Key project was in rotation also. While any of them could produce a great Throwback Thursday joint, we are going in another direction. Who remembers the hip hop group Whodini? Whodini’s third album, Back in Black was also in rotation this week.  Here’s a little backstory about Whodini, they…

Mariah Carey Shake It Off for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday, this means we’re closer to the weekend. My playlist this weekend consisted of a pair of albums from Game, the Friday Soundtrack and EPMD Greatest Hits. The classic Long Live the Kane, a personal Master P CD and Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi joint. The Game albums were LAX and the Documentary 2.5. As you can see, there are a lot to choose from to be featured as the Throwback Thursday song. We going with some R&B this week and checking up on the Maria Carey joint. Many people called the Emancipation of Mimi album her comeback project. The album went on to sell six…

Beanie Sigel The B. Coming Released 15 Years Ago Today

Beanie Sigel was undoubtedly one of the hardest rappers to come in the game in the 2000s. Last month, Sigel celebrated the 20th anniversary of his hard-hitting debut album, The Truth. A little over a year later, Beanie Sigel dropped his follow-up, The Reason. Almost four years later, Beanie released his third album, The B. Coming. The B. Coming had its fair share of guest appearances and it made this another classic in Beanie Sigel’s discography. Snoop Dogg, Bun B, Jay-Z, Redman, Cam’Ron, Freeway, Twista and many more. The amount of growth shown on The B. Coming was impressive and Beanie became a better storyteller in the process. The Neptunes,…

Daddy’s Hangout Best of Jay Z for Mixtape Friday

With this being the final Friday of the year and decade, we have one more Mixtape Friday. With Jay-Z having his albums on Spotify now, why not do a Jay-Z playlist? The playlist will be his best tracks from his solo albums and the Watch the Throne collabo with Kanye. Jay-Z is definitely in my top-15 rappers of all-time and one of the greatest to ever do it. Everything from Reasonable Doubt to his 4:44 album was included in this selection. There’s a total of 101 tracks and I’m sure some will think a few tracks were left off, but this is personal. Check out the track listing below and…

Best of First Half 2019 Throwback Thursday

First off, Rest in Peace all the way in heaven to my dad who would’ve been 70-years-old today. One thing my dad instilled in me and that’s the love of music. With the halfway point of 2019 in a few days, we will put together all the Throwback Thursday joints from the first half of 2019. 2019 have been eventful year thus far as we tragically loss Nipsey Hussle on April 1st. Earlier this month, we lost the legendary Bushwick Bill of the Geto Boys from pancreatic cancer. As far as albums, we haven’t had a lot of great ones as the Jim Jones one stands out to me. Below…

No Dope on Sundays is an amazing album and eighth tracks are featured on Volume 23 of Mixtape Friday. My personal Trick Daddy Greatest Hits followed, and this is another eight tracks. If you had to list them, what are your top 5 albums from Ludacris? After listing my top 5 albums from another Atlanta legend, T.I. we turn to Ludacris. Ludacris began his career back in 1999. Ludacris have done his fair share of acting as he’s been a part of the Fast and the Furious franchise. Twenty years later, Ludacris has been teasing new music as he’s clocking in studio time with Timbaland. Throughout the years, Ludacris is either loved or hated by fans and critics.
