Public Enemy Fight the Power for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday, this means we’re getting closer to the weekend. This week my playlist included Another Bad Creation, the Untouchable album from Scarface and Beanie Sigel debut project. Till Death Do Us Apart by the Geto Boys, Disc 3 of a personal Biggie Greatest Hits and a Nas mixtape with DJ Keyz was also played. Any of those would be great to be featured, but there was another album bumped this week. We’re going to take this back to 1990 and Public Enemy for this one. Public Enemy was one of the first groups that made me a fan of hip hop. Fear of A Black Planet was…

My personal Jeezy Greatest Hits and disc 1 of 2Pac Greatest Hits were also played along with the new Rhapsody album. Montell Jordan’s debut album was the final one this week. This is How We Do It went on to become an iconic track. 25 years later, it’s still one of those songs you hear and immediately start singing. This is one of those songs that’ll have you dancing in your 60s. My Throwback Thursday track is the title track…

Cole just released two new tracks that’s rumored to be part of his upcoming album, The Fall Off. The Lewis Street singles are called The Climb Back and Lion King on Ice. The Fall Off will be the follow up to his KOD album a couple years ago. Both…

Snoop Dogg Still A G Thang for Throwback Thursday

It was just announced yesterday that we have a legendary Verzuz coming up next week. We have Snoop Dogg taking on DMX, which should be good and entertaining at the same time. Snoop and DMX are two of the greatest rappers to ever pick up a mic. With today being Thursday, we’re getting closer to the weekend. My playlist this week consisted of the new albums from Lil Baby and Run the Jewels, plus Volume 6 of my 2Pac B-Day Mix. We also played the Tear the Club Up Thugs, the debut joint from Jodeci and Too Short’s Can’t Stay Away. Overall, this was a great week, but with the…

Nipsey Hussle Victory Lap for Throwback Thursday

The Dead Prez & Outlawz mixtape, an unreleased Dogg Pound CD and the Lil Baby also was played. My selection came from the last album that was in my selection this week. Despite not being over 10 years old, this is still a classic from an artist we lost last year. It’s none other than the late, great…

Once again, we have arrived at another Thursday which means it’s almost the weekend. My playlist this week only consisted of Fat Joe’s Loyalty album and 112’s Pleasure and Pain. Since I’ve been home all week the only album that was played was Unpredictable from Mystikal. Mystikal will be the featured artist this week. Speaking of No Limit Records, on July 29th BET will start the 5-part series about their rise. No Limit Records…

Bizzy Bone’s Thug Revenge and Styles P Master of Ceremonies also were played. One joint off some of Jadakiss’s collaborations mixtape caught my attention.  John Blaze is the track and it’s my Throwback Thursday track of the week, John Blaze is off Fat Joe’s Don Cartagena album and it features four of New York’s coldest spitters. When you have Raekwon, Nas, Jadakiss, Fat Joe and the late, great Big Pun on one track, you already know. I’ll go as far…

    2Pac Changes for Throwback Thursday

I see no changes, wake up in the morning and I ask myself, is life worth living should I blast myself. These are the opening line to 2Pac Changes, which is part of his Greatest Hits double album. 2Pac would’ve turned 49-years-old if he wasn’t murdered in Vegas on September 7th of 1996. Changes were released after his death and it’s one of his most impactful records ever. 2Pac Changes talked about racism, gun violence, mistreatment of black people by the police and the war on drugs. Does any of that sounds familiar in 2020? The track was originally recorded in 1992 and later remixed and add some of I…

Soul for Real hit the scene with their debut album, Candy Rain and it went platinum. The title track was released in the late fall of…

My playlists this week consisted of the King album from T.I., Compton by Dr. Dre and Usher’s Raymond vs. Raymond. UGK’s Ridin Dirty, the Idlewild soundtrack from Outkast and a personal Ice Cube Greatest Hits. This week, the featured track comes from neither of those as we’re going in another direction. Naughty by Nature Feel Me Flow for Throwback Thursday

Once again, we have arrived at another Thursday. We’re one day closer to Friday and that means the weekend. The only album that was played this week was the Fuck Da City Up mixtape from T.I. I’ve had the week off and haven’t really been anywhere. For my featured Throwback Thursday, we’re going back to 1995. That year we had countless classics that dropped. Only Built for Cuban Linx, Me Against the World, Soul Food and plenty others were released. Of course, this was the middle of the second golden age of hip hop. Naughty by Nature released their fourth album, Poverty’s Paradise that year. As a matter of fact,…

Ja Rule Caught Up for Throwback Thursday

Once again, we have arrived at another Thursday. Of course, we’re one step closer to Memorial Day weekend. If you have plans, please be safe, practice social distancing and hoping no more Covid-19 cases. My playlist this week consisted of nothing but mixtapes and Eminem’s Marshall Mathers LP 2. Two personal mixtapes and one from Drake and Joell Ortiz. For this one, we’re going with Ja Rule. R.U.L.E. was his sixth album and eventually it went gold. Wonderful featuring R. Kelly and New York, New York with Jadakiss and Fat Joe was his first two singles. Those were two great singles, but his third one is the featured Throwback Thursday…

Once again, we have arrived at another Thursday which means it’s almost Friday. My playlist this week consisted of Griselda, Big Krit, a Rick Ross mixtape and Kendrick’s To Pimp a Butterfly album. Once again, this was another great week of music. Last week, we highlighted the late, great Soulja Slim and this week we’re staying with the No Limit theme. Master P’s Da Last Don album was one of the featured joints this week. If you remember this time, Master P said this was to be his final album ever. Da Last Don was a double album and would’ve been a great album to ride off in the sunset.…

We will focus on the late, great Soulja Slim for our Throwback Thursday. Give It 2 Em Raw was his No Limit debut and it was an incredible album. From What I Was Told is the featured track and it was also featured on the I Got the Hook Up Soundtrack. Soulja Slim’s debut album went on to go gold. Slim is looked at as a New Orleans legend. Mr. Ku Born Threat for Throwback Thursday

My Mixtape Friday was one of my personal favorites I’ve ever done. The compilation was some of Georgia’s dopest hip hop records spanning about 30 years. OutKast, Goodie Mob, Raheem the Dream, T.I., Ludacris, Jeezy, Ghetto Mafia and Kilo Ali were among those included. Unfortunately, there are a lot of other artists who didn’t make the compilation. Many of my favorite tracks aren’t available on any streaming services which absolutely suck. One of those artists is my featured Throwback Thursday track and his name is Mr. Ku. Born Threat is the name of the record and it came out around the mid-90s. Born Threat from Mr. Ku appeared on several…
