As you can see, there were many to select from to be featured for Throwback Thursday. One album that wasn’t mentioned was The Future by Guy. This album was released all the way in November of 1990. Rick Ross Released Port of Miami 15 Years Ago

Rick Ross is one of the better rappers we’ve seen over the last 20 years. To be honest, Ross has one of the better discographies of any rapper to ever touch the mic. It all started 15 years ago when Rick Ross released his debut album, Port of Miami. The platinum selling Port of Miami first single was a mega-hit when it was released. Hustlin’ was the name and it was one of the biggest hits of the summer of 2006. Hustlin’ went platinum and even had Jay-Z and Jeezy on the remix. Push It was the only other single released off the Port of Miami. Unfortunately, Push It didn’t…

Jadakiss Kiss Tha Game Goodbye Dropped 20 Years Ago Today

Jadakiss is one of the greatest rapper of all-time. During this past week’s edition of Verzuz, more people have come to that realization. Jadakiss along with his Lox brothers took on the Dipset live from Madison Square Garden. Let’s just say that Jadakiss walked away as the MVP as he took out the Dipset by himself. Lebron James even tweeted out that Jadakiss is the most underrated rapper in history. 20 years ago today, Jadakiss released his debut solo joint, Kiss Tha Game Goodbye. Before that, the Lox dropped two great albums as part of the Ruff Ryders and Bad Boy Records. Money, Power & Respect and We Are the…

The Usher 8701 Album Turns 20 Years Old Today

When you think about great R&B artists over the last 25 years, Usher’s name will usually come up. Usher entered the game at the age of 15 when he dropped his self-titled debut joint. Three years later, he returned with his second album, My Way. My Way went on to sell over 6 million records making Usher a megastar in the process. Less than two years later, he released a Live album to close out the 90s. Usher released his 3rd album a couple years later. The album is called 8701 and it was released 20 years ago today. Wicked Wayz From Mr. Mike Released 25 Years Ago Today

Suave House Records is one of my favorite rap labels of all-time. 8Ball & MJG were their biggest acts, but they had others beside them. Tela, Crime Boss and South Circle all dropped classic albums as they were included in my Suave House collection. Mr. Mike was a part of South Circle with Thorough and he dropped his debut album the following year. Wicked Wayz was the name of the project, and it was released 25 years ago today. The Wicked Wayz joint featured 8Ball & MJG and Ice Cube and it was a great album. Stop Lying is my favorite song off the album as it was featured as…

The week started with listening to the new Pop Smoke album and that was followed by Young Joc. I Am from Nas, Disc 1 of Life After Death and Mood Muzik 3.5 was also in my rotation. I’m Your Baby Tonight from Whitney Houston and a personal 2Pac mixtape also made its way to my playlist. The Doctor’s Advocate by the Game was another project that was played this week. All of these great albums had amazing tracks and could be a featured track. The final album…

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. My playlist started off with the late, great Aaliyah’s final album. The Versus joint from Usher, Snoop’s Ego Trippin’ and Jay-Z’s Dynasty album was also played. D-Block, a couple of mixtapes and Piece of Mind by Tela also made the playlist. As you can see, this was another good week of some great music. For my featured Throwback Thursday track, we’re going with one of the best albums to come from No Limit Records. C Murder’s Life or Death album is a classic album. It featured damn near everyone on the label and went platinum just like…

Aaliyah Released Final Album 20 Years Ago Today

Aaliyah was one of the most beautiful and talented singers in the late-90s. She hit the scene at the age of 15 with her debut album. Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number sold over 3 million records and solidified her as a bonafied star. She released five singles off the debut joint. The first two, Back & Forth and At Your Best went gold and are all-time classics. Two years later, Aaliyah came back with her second album, One in a Million. Nas It Was Written Released 25 Years Ago Today

Nas is my favorite rapper alive and one of the best to ever do it. Illmatic is viewed as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all-time. Two years later, Nas returned with his second album with high expectations. 25 years ago It Was Written dropped and it was every bit as good as his debut. It Was Written debuted at the top of the charts and it went on to sell over 3 million copies. It Was Written remained his best-selling album and one of my personal favorites. While Illmatic didn’t have any major features, this one packed some dopes ones. Lauryn Hill, Dr. Dre, Mobb Deep, The…

Keith Sweat Released Self-Titled Album 25 Years Ago

Keith Sweat was one of my favorite singers growing up. The Make It Last Forever and I’ll Give All My Love to You albums are two of my all-time favorite. Those two albums mentioned set the tone for what we expected from a Keith Sweat project. 25 years ago today, Keith Sweat released his self-titled album. The album went on to sell over four million records and proved he’s one of the GOATs of R&B. The Keith Sweat album was his 5th one and he hit us with Twisted as the first single. Twisted was a fixture on the R&B charts upon its release. The single sold well over 1.5…

Jay-Z is one of the greatest rappers to ever touch the mic. There are many that have him at the top of their all-time list. 25 years ago today, Jay-Z released his Reasonable Doubt album. The platinum selling debut is viewed by many as his best album. Personally, it’s up there with his Black Album and Blueprint joints. Reasonable Doubt had features from the Notorious Big, Mary J. Blige, Foxy Brown, Memphis Bleek and Sauce Money. Dead Presidents was his first single and it sampled Nas the World is Yours track. Of course, this was brought up when they were having beef with each other. The gold-selling single set the…

We are going in another direction for the featured Throwback Thursday joint. The FBI album from Dayton Family was also played this week and it’s a very underrated album.
