Create Family Memories On A Road Trip To The Golden Isles

Last year approximately 87.7 million U.S. citizens traveled out of the United States showing that the majority of US residents are choosing to vacation within the US. With fifty states to choose from the options for family holidays are endless. So if you don’t fancy leaving the country then take the family to Georgia’s Golden Isles for an array of healthy family activities including beach living, nature trails, boat trips and so much more.

Where are the Golden Isles?

A group of four barrier islands, Jekyll Island, Little St. Simons Island, St. Simons Island and Sea Island create the Golden Isles on the one hundred mile Georgian coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. They are about a five-hour drive from Atlanta and there are various domestic airports within a hundred kilometers. Atlanta is the closest international airport, but if you can pack up the car and drive with the family, you can map your journey and include stop points along the way.

Pick an island

Where you choose to go may depend on the ages of your children, but the most southern of the islands, Jekyll Island, has plenty of family options. Featuring ten miles of beautiful white beaches, including Great Dunes and Driftwood beaches, a water park, dolphin tours, a turtle center and horseback riding, there is something for everyone, whether young or old. There are plenty of accommodation options on this island and the neighboring islands, from high end to budget, so book your room in advance to get a good deal.

St. Simons Island

This is the largest of the Golden Isles and the fabulous East Beach might be the only place you choose to visit during your stay. However, if the children need more entertainment, take a guided tour on the fun Lighthouse vintage trolley or book a private tour or a family friendly ghost tour if you feel brave. Otherwise, you can explore the island by car or by bike and with endless restaurants you are spoiled for choice. If you don’t fancy the beach the children will love the Neptune Park or miniature golf or fishing at Fun Zone park.

Where ever you vacation with your family you will build memories, but a road trip gives added flexibility. You don’t have to plan everything you do, you be guided by the holiday, the activities and the children. The Golden Isles offer a wealth of outdoor options which all the family can participate in. Whether it’s a stopover en route to a final destination or if you choose to spend your whole vacation there, you won’t be disappointed.
