2020 College Football National Championship Predictions

2020 College Football National Championship Predictions

We have finally reached the end of the college football season. Clemson emerged from the Fiesta Bowl as the victors as they edged Ohio State to reach the title game. LSU pummeled Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl to reach the championship game. This year, we only predicted five bowl games and the record was 4-1. The only blemish was Oregon coming back to beat Wisconsin in an epic Rose Bowl game. When you combine the Conference Championships my overall record is 58-13. Coming into the National Championship game, my winning percentage dropped from 82 to 81.7%. This year I’ll finish above 80% no matter the outcome of this game. Many people wanted to see this game and others thought LSU and Ohio State were the two best teams. Who will leave New Orleans as the 2020 College Football National Champions?

We have a battle between the nation’s best defense in Clemson, who’s allowing less than 12 points a game. With LSU, they are the best offense in the country as they score a little less than 50 points a game. While many will point to the Clemson, they proved against Ohio State that they’re legit. LSU put up points against everyone they faced and the Tigers had a stout schedule. Joe Burrow is projected to be the #1 pick in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. Trevor Lawrence is projected to be the #1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Joe Burrow went out and accounted for 8 TDs in the first half against Oklahoma. Trevor Lawrence basically put the Clemson team on his back and guided them to the win over Ohio State. Will Burrow and Lawrence duplicate their excellence on the biggest stage?

With Clemson, they haven’t loss in almost two years and they’re the defending champions. Trevor Lawrence hasn’t tasted defeat in college as he’s aiming for his second national championship. The Tigers have two of the best WRs in the country in Higgins and Ross. They also have one of the toughest RBs in Travis Etienne coming out of the backfield. As far as LSU is concerned, the receiving core that they have is just as good as anyone in the country. The running game of the Tigers is equally as good and Joe Burrow is the Heisman Trophy winner. LSU has scored at will against everyone they’ve faced, could Clemson frustrate Burrow and the LSU offense? Clemson had a hard time against the Buckeyes defense, but LSU’s defense isn’t as dominate as years past. Can Trevor Lawrence expose the LSU defense like no other opponent has?

The Clemson defense was exposed in the first half by Ohio State. If J.K. Dobbins didn’t suffer that ankle injury, could we be talking about Ohio State in this game? Either way, Clemson’s defense is as good as it gets but they will need to pressure Burrow. Joe Burrow can beat you with his arm and legs also, kind of like Trevor Lawrence. While people talk about Clemson needing to pressure Burrow, LSU will need to do the same against Trevor Lawrence. Will the LSU defense be able to slow down Travis Etienne running and catching the ball out of the backfield? The key matchup could be the secondary of LSU against the WRs from Clemson. This should be an epic championship game and it’s hard to go against either QB. I’m taking the hot hand and swag of Joe Burrow to lead LSU to the national championship over Clemson.
